Anti-Virus Software

The term “virus” refers to an infection that can copy itself and infect a computer.  A virus can copy itself throughout a network and infect multiple computers, or can be hidden/attached in an email and sent to multiple computers that way.  Viruses are mainly designed to infect multiple computers.  The best way to prevent a virus is to keep your operating system updated and to install an anti-virus program.  Also monitoring your browsing habits will help tremendously too.  Avoid websites that say your computer is infected and you need to download/buy software in order to clean your computer.

A true anti-virus program will not scan your computer until it is already downloaded and installed.  Also avoid unknown or not trusted websites and only download legitimate programs to your computer.  Lastly, if you see an email from an unknown sender, or it looks like spam it probably is, just delete it and don’t open it.

We recommend the following anti-virus programs:

Avast! Anti-Virus

AVG Anti-Virus

Trend Micro
