Recent Building Preservation/Restoration Graduate Admitted to the University of Florida’s Masters of Historic Preservation Program

Joseph Jessop Warren, a recent 2011 Belmont graduate who majored in Belmont’s Building Preservation and Restoration (BPR) program, will be starting The University of Florida’s Masters of Historic Preservation program this August.

Warren, who is from Columbus, Georgia, has an interest in industrial retooling of historic manufacturing complexes for future industrial and commercial use.  In the future, he would like to assist in restoring old factories by utilizing historic preservation.

According to Belmont BPR Program Chair Dave Mertz, “Jess is a great example of how someone, who was not particularly interested in a career in the trades, was able to use the technical information he gained by attending the BPR program to pursue his interests in the greater field of historic preservation."

Acceptance into graduate school is not Warren’s only major accomplishment.  While attending Belmont, he was one of two preservation trade interns at Stratford Hall, the birthplace of Robert E. Lee, in Westmoreland County, Virginia.  He also had the honor of being the guest speaker at the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Ohio at their formal Winter Court event held in Cincinnati, Ohio. “My experience at Belmont was a rewarding one,” said Warren.  “The BPR program has many challenging aspects to it, since most of the projects are hands-on.  I learned the rewards of hard work and diligence though this program and I am anxious to begin working on my master’s to further my knowledge of the preservation trades.”
