Information Security for Business

Short-Term Certificate

 

This short-term certificate, Information Security for Business, provides the foundation information security concepts starting with understanding risk concepts and addressing them through organizational elements and technology.  This certificate is designed for the business owner who does not have extensive cyber security hands-on technology background but who does have extensive hands-on business technology background and needs an understanding of information security issues and procedures.  Students who successfully complete this certificate are eligible to take an industry certification examination.

 

CompTIA   Security+ is approved by U.S. Dept. of Defense to meet IA technical and management certification requirements.  The Security+ exam covers the most important foundational principles for securing a network and managing risk.  Access control, identity management and cryptography are important topics on the exam, as well as selection of appropriate mitigation and deterrent techniques to address network attacks and vulnerabilities.

 

Certificate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the certificate program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Understand the implications of security as part of business continuity planning.
  2. Develop policy as it relates to security of data, release of information, and social media.
  3. Discuss legal compliance topics in a business environment.
  4. Investigate techniques and accounting principles focused on the detection of fraud.

Oil and Gas Accounting 

Short-Term Certificate

 

The Oil and Gas Accounting certificate prepares individuals to provide technical administrative support to professional accountants and other financial management personnel. This certificate program is designed for individuals who work in accounting and seek an oil and gas specialization. Coursework includes:

  • Instruction in posting transactions to accounts
  • Record-keeping systems
  • Accounting software operation
  • General accounting principles and practices

 

Oil and Gas Accounting I and Oil and Gas Accounting II courses are approved by the Accountancy Board of Ohio making Belmont College a sponsor for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units for Certified Public Accountants (CPA).

 

Certificate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the certificate program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate general accounting principles and practices as they apply to the oil and gas industry.
  2. Knowledge of accounting costing procedures for upstream operation, production, acquisition, drill, and development.
  3. Understand accounting revenue procedures related to oil and gas sales, financial statements, joint interests, and conveyances.
  4. Knowledge of oil and gas accounting procedures related to taxes, joint operations and interests, conveyances, and disclosures.
