Payroll Clerk Certificate

Short-Term Certificate


Payroll Clerk is a short-term certificate and prepares graduates for employment in an entry-level position.  Students will understand basic accounting principles and be proficient to apply principles to payroll applications using QuickBooks.  Topics include compiling and posting employee time and payroll data recording attendance, hours worked, payroll liabilities, and pay adjustments.


Industry Based Certification

Upon Completion students are eligible to take an industry payroll certification examination. National Bookkeepers Association’s (NBA) Uniform Payroll Certification Examination is the examination administered to payroll clerks who want to obtain the Payroll Certification.  This certification testing is given at Belmont College; for more information about all NBA certification visit the National Bookkeepers Association website.


Certificate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the certificate program, graduates will be able to:

  1.  Process payroll and personnel records
  2.  Record and process wages and salary
  3.  Record and process Social Security taxes
  4.  Record and process income tax withholding
  5.  Record and process Unemployment Compensation taxes
  6.  Analyze and journalize payroll transactions
