College Fest Held at Belmont Technical College

St. Clairsville, OH (September 23, 2011) – Over 320 high schools students attended College Fest at Belmont Technical College on September 16 at the Main Campus in St. Clairsville.

Students from the following schools attended the event: Barnesville High School, Beallsville High School, Bridgeport High School, East Richland High School, Shadyside High School, and St. Clairsville High School.

“College Fest is a great event that introduces students to many different aspects of college,” said Crissy D’Aquila, Belmont High School Relations Advisor. “The event also allows them the opportunity to explore various career options.”

Area college representatives discussed certain topics including: how to succeed in college, how to pay for higher-education, campus living, online college classes and much more. Representatives from the following colleges and universities presented: Belmont Technical College; Bethany College; Eastern Gateway Community College; ITT Technical Institute; Marietta College; Muskingum University; Ohio University Eastern Campus; Ohio Valley University; Washington State Community College; West Liberty University; West Virginia Business College; Wheeling Jesuit University; Zane State University.

Local business professionals were also available to discuss and demonstrate career choices such as: Nursing, Armed Forces, Criminal Justice, Information Technology, Biological Sciences, Pipe Fitting, and more.  A pipe fitting demonstration was even held to inform students about what to expect in their daily duties as a professional pipe fitter.

Founded in 1971, Belmont Technical College is one of 23 community colleges in the University System of Ohio. The College offers more than 30 associate degrees and 11 certificate programs to serve the multiple needs of area citizens. Belmont offers a comprehensive array of credit and non-credit programming at the Main Campus in St. Clairsville.  The College also has locations in Cadiz and Woodsfield, Ohio.

College Fest Keynote speaker Dr. James Burson addressed the College Fest attendees. Dr. Burson is a sought-after basketball consultant and motivational speaker. He is currently a consultant for Nike, and a retired professor and head coach of the men’s basketball team from Muskingum University.
