Belmont Technical College to Host Motivational Speaker
St. Clairsville, OH (October 25, 2011) - In part of an effort to positively impact
the lives of students and the community, Belmont Technical College will be hosting
Coach James Burson at their Main Campus on November 3 at 4:00 p.m. in Horizon Hall.
"Coach Burson is known for his ability to motivate and inspire individuals,"
said Jennifer Redrup, Director of Student Engagement, Leadership, and Career Services.
"We are bringing him to the College to share his life insights, with our students,
staff, and the public. We hope many of the local community members will take the
opportunity to come and hear him speak."
The no-cost event is open to the public.
Dr. James F. Burson:
Dr. James (Jim) F. Burson is a sought-after basketball consultant and motivational
speaker. He is known as a "coaches' coach" for his lifetime commitment
to improving the quality of the game at all levels.
Jim is writing a book, The Golden Whistle, and authors Jim Burson's Solution-Based
Basketball ( <http://www.jimburson.com> www.jimburson.com) a popular blog
about basketball and life. He is strategic marketing consultant for 94Fifty, a young
company with revolutionary basketball technology.
Jim is a consultant for Nike and founded its Coaches Learning Academy for youth
coaches. He also evaluates Nike's prestigious Skills Academies and Elite Youth Basketball
Sports Illustrated featured Jim in a famous article about the complex Princeton
Offense, crediting him with "cracking the code" of the offense and dubbing
him "the Connector" and "the Disseminator" for his role in sharing
its secrets with coaches around the country.
An all-time top ten Division III coach, Jim was president of the National Association
of Basketball Coaches (NABC), was involved in the selection process for the '84
Gold Medal Olympic team, coached at the Olympic Sports Festival, and was named an
All-Time Assistant Coach for the USA Olympic Festival.
Jim is a member of three halls of fame: Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, Muskingum
University Hall of Fame and the inaugural Marysville High School Hall of Fame.
Jim had a distinguished 42-year career at Muskingum University, retiring in 2006
as professor of physical and health education and as head coach of the men's basketball
team. He served twice as chair of his department while serving simultaneously as
athletic director, and founded the school's athletic hall of fame He has received
the university's distinguished alumni and distinguished faculty awards.
Jim graduated from Muskingum in 1963 and earned his PhD and master's degrees from
The Ohio State University.
Founded in 1971, Belmont Technical College is one of 23 community colleges in the
University System of Ohio. The College offers more than 30 associate degrees and
11 certificate programs to serve the multiple needs of area citizens. Belmont offers
a comprehensive array of credit and non-credit programming at the main campus in
St. Clairsville. The College also has locations in Cadiz and Woodsfield, Ohio. BTC
