Belmont College Hosts Community Outreach Event
Belmont College hosts the 39th Annual Reading Wonderland event for several hundred local area pre-school children to promote reading literacy.
St. Clairsville, OH (November 16, 2012) – For the 39th year Belmont College hosted pre-school age children from Belmont, Harrison, and Monroe Counties during the annual Children’s Holiday Party “Reading Wonderland.” The event was held Friday, November 16, at Belmont’s Main Campus with over 400 children in attendance.
The theme of the event was “Reading Wonderland;” the main purpose of the program is to promote reading literacy among children. Stories were read to the children and they had visits with Santa’s elves and some favorite cartoon and movie characters such as: Frosty the Snowman, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Jasmine, Spiderman, and Beauty and the Beast.
Entertainment was provided by Wes and Vicki Huntsman of the Cabin Boys bluegrass and country band. They provided fun holiday music and children’s songs during the program.
The main event was a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
“The Reading Wonderland event is a Belmont College tradition of outreach to our local community to promote reading literacy,” said R.J. Konkoleski, Director of Development and External Affairs. “We appreciate the response that we receive from our sponsors, parents, and participating schools.”
Each child received a book that was donated by Kroger and snack provided by Kellogg’s.
The Children’s Holiday Party was made possible because of the following sponsors: Bethesda Belmont Morristown Rotary; St. Clairsville Noon Rotary; Kellogg’s; Kroger; and MedExpress Urgent Care.
