Belmont College Announces New Scholarship
St. Clairsville, OH (May 8, 2013) – The Belmont College Foundation
is pleased to announce a new college scholarship endowment to provide financial
assistance for Belmont College students who are pursuing an associate degree in
registered nursing or a certificate in practical nursing.
This scholarship, named The Nita C. Lewis Pathway to Nursing Scholarship, has been
established by Mr. J.I. Lewis in memory of his wife, Nita, who served as a paramedic
instructor for Belmont College (then Belmont Technical College) and was an outreach
educator for Belmont County Emergency Medical Service.
“Having this support for our nursing students ensures quality health care coming
back into the community in the form of exceptional graduates,” said R.J. Konkoleski,
Director of Development and External Affairs. “Honoring Mrs. Nita Lewis’ legacy
with this endowment speaks to the incredible leadership and dedication she provided
both the College and the health care field.”
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must reside in Belmont County and
be in pursuit of an associate degree in registered nursing or a certificate in practical
nursing. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are non-traditional
students and/or whose service as an EMT or as a Paramedic can be verified through
the Ohio Department of Public Safety. In addition to the General Application, applicants
must submit a short essay stating why they want to become a nurse.
