St. Clairsville, OH (April 23, 2013) – The PNC Foundation, has presented the Belmont College Foundation with a grant in support of the Cindy L. Jones Child Development Center at Belmont College to enable the purchase of 10 iPads that will support and expand financial education for the children in the Preschool and Toddler Program at the Development Center. PNC provided the funding in support of Grow Up Great, its 10-year, $100 million bilingual program in early childhood education.

“We are very appreciative of PNC’s generosity,” said R.J. Konkoleski, Director of Development & External Affairs at Belmont College. “This grant provides is a wonderful resource to get families talking about financial concepts while also supporting the content for a solid foundation of learning.”

The iPads will be used to offer lessons in money, math, literacy, and technology designed to meet the Ohio Department of Education Content Standards and leverage the Early Learning Content Standards that are preparing children from birth through school age for success in school and life. Teachers at the center will use the iPads to introduce the children to financial concepts through interactive resources offered by PNC and the State Treasurer of Ohio.

“PNC recognizes the role kindergarten readiness plays in the well-being of local children, their families and ultimately our economy,” said Janet Jacobs, PNC Regional Manager, speaking on behalf of the PNC Foundation. “By preparing our youngest citizens for educational success, we help build a solid foundation for the future of this region.”

“The Child Development Center offers quality, hands-on learning that is not only important to the children but also to the families in our communities that are attending the college to further their education in the hopes of attaining prosperity in the future,” said Nancy Haynes, Director of Child Care Services. “The donation of these iPads will be instrumental to helping our students receive hands-on lessons that will increase student engagement in money through math, English, language arts, social studies, and technology.”
