Belmont College Holds Science & Engineering Day

St. Clairsville, OH (May 1, 2013) – Over 75 local high school students
attended the Science & Engineering Day held at Belmont College on Friday, April
26. The purpose of the event was to encourage students to enter the science and
engineering fields by exposing them to different career options and activities.
Students from Martins Ferry High School, Shadyside High School, St. Clairsville
High School, and the Swiss Hills Career Center were in attendance.
Breakout sessions focusing on topics such as civil engineering, CAD design, and
math were provided as well as guest speakers who work in the science and engineering
Main presenter Darryl Baynes, co-founder and president of the Minority Aviation
Education Association's Interactive Science Programs presented “explosive science.”
This national science and math education organization specializes in providing hands-on
science demonstrations and experiments to capture the attention of students and
encourage them to pursue careers in science.
Belmont College students and staff volunteered to prepare displays about physics,
electronics, and welding.
