Belmont College Offers Plus 50 Program

St. Clairsville, OH (March 7, 2014) – Working through the American Association of Community College’s Plus 50 program, Belmont College will be offering a Transition to College course for adults age 50 and over who want to earn a college degree but are apprehensive about how and where to begin.

The five-week course will run from April 1 through May 1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The course will be held at the Main Campus location in St. Clairsville. Students must be 50 years of age or older to enroll and there is no cost to attend.

The Transition to College course is a result of the Plus 50 grant program that Belmont College recently received. This grant, awarded by the American Association of Community Colleges recently launched a nationwide initiative to train 10,000 baby boomers for professions in health care, education and social services. The Plus 50 Program is intended to serve adults who attended college but never received a degree, have a high school diploma or a GED but have little, if any, college credit or those who need a new skill for a changing job market.

Through the Plus 50 Program, Belmont College is providing programs and services such as the Transition to College course that make it easier than ever for students over 50 to obtain the skills and credentials required to compete for jobs in the health care, education, and social services fields.
