Belmont College Board Chair Named Ohio Association of Community Colleges Executive Chairperson

Mrs. Elizabeth Gates, Belmont College Board of Trustee Chairperson, has been named Chairperson of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges Executive Committee.

 

St. Clairsville, OH (August 21, 2018) – Belmont College is pleased to announce that Board of Trustees Chairperson, Mrs. Elizabeth Gates, has been named Chairperson of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Executive Committee effective July 1, 2017.

The Executive Committee is the second ranking governing authority within the Association.

Belmont honored Mrs. Gates during the college’s 2018 Employee Fall Forum on Monday. OACC President and CEO, Mr. Jack Hershey was there to recognize and congratulate Mrs. Gates, as were several members of the Belmont College Board of Trustees including: Mr. William Hunkler, Mr. Howard Landkrohn, and Mrs. Anita Rice.

 

Every two years, the OACC Governing Board elects four trustees and four presidents to serve as officers of the Association’s Executive Committee. This Executive Committee is dedicated to the advancement and implementation of sound policy and initiatives that work to ensure the success of the more than 300,000 community college students in Ohio.

 

“I want to congratulate Mrs. Gates on being named Chairperson of the Executive Committee,” said Dr. Paul Gasparro, President. “She has been a powerful and thoughtful force on our Board, and I know she’ll be a great asset to the OACC.”

 

He continued, “Mrs. Gates has truly been a visionary leader serving on the Board of Trustees for many years. She has been generous with her time, talents and commitment to our institution. Moreover, her involvement with the OACC has elevated the status of Belmont College throughout the state. Mrs. Gates’ contributions to Belmont are extensive and we are so thankful for her dedication to the college and our students.”

 

Mrs. Gates has served on the Belmont College Board of Trustees since 1995. She was named Chairperson of the Board in 2000. Mrs. Gate is Vice President of Advisory Services at Omni Strategic Technologies. She Co-Founded HGO Technology, Inc. in 1986, which was one of three companies merged to form Omni Strategic Technologies in 2014. Mrs. Gates Holds a M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.S. in Mathematics from Wheeling Jesuit University.

 

“It is an honor for me to serve Belmont College and the Ohio Association of Community Colleges and to promote higher education,” said Mrs. Elizabeth Gates.  “We are fortunate to have a strong Community College sector in the state of Ohio and to have a strong organization to support this sector.”

 

She continued, “Being on the Board of Trustees of Belmont College led me to being involved in our state association to become better informed of the advancements in this sector and to advance the image of community colleges in our region and to elevate our own deliberations at the local level on college policies and efforts related to workforce development and student success. Our Community Colleges provide a pathway for many to obtain Associate Degrees and Certifications supporting student success, making a difference in qualifying for family sustaining jobs and establishing a career path.”

 

According to the OACC, whose membership includes the trustees and presidents of all 23 community colleges in Ohio, the association serves as an advocacy organization on behalf of community colleges. To that end, the OACC works closely with state and federal policy makers to educate and inform them on the issues that have a direct impact on community colleges.
