Belmont College Students Named All-Ohio Academic Team Members
St. Clairsville, OH (April 11, 2019) – Each year Belmont College President Dr. Paul Gasparro nominates exceptional students to the All-Ohio Academic Team; this year Belmont College students
Heidi Fitzgerald and Jennifer Cunningham were chosen for this prestigious honor.
Fitzgerald, from Cambridge, Ohio, graduated from Belmont College in December 2018 with an Associate’s Degree in Mental Health Technology. She maintained a GPA of 3.841. Fitzgerald was named All-Ohio Academic First Team.
Additionally, Fitzgerald was named a 2019 New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. This scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions who plan to enter the workforce upon the completion of a degree or certificate on a national scale. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa.
Cunningham, from Quaker City, Ohio is a Mental Health major. She maintains a 3.63 GPA and plans to graduate this May. Cunningham was named to the All-Ohio Academic Third Team.
First-team honorees will receive $1,000 scholarships, while second-team members get $500 scholarships and third-team members $250. A recognition program for team members will take place in Columbus on April 25 during Community College Month.
To be eligible for the All-Ohio Academic Team, students must be nominated by their college president. The rankings for the All-Ohio Academic Team are determined by the scores nominees receive in the All-USA Academic Team Judging. Winners are selected on the basis of academic performance, demonstration of leadership, and community service involvement.
The All-Ohio Academic Team program is supported by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Honda of America Mfg. Inc.
