Belmont College Radiology Students Earn Top Honors at West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists Conference
St. Clairsville, OH (November 15, 2019) – Belmont College Radiology students recently competed to test their skills at the 2019 West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists (WVSRT) Conference. The two-and-a-half-day conference was held November 7 – 9, 2019.
The WVSRT conference is held annually by the West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists for radiography students, radiologic technologists, radiology nurses, radiology educators, and radiology administrators. According to Belmont College Radiology Program Director Stephanie Stauver, the conference is focused on educational presentations geared toward medical imaging.
Several radiology programs who attend the conference each year including: Belmont College; Southern WV Community and Technical College; St. Mary’s Medical Center; United Hospital Center; WVU Hospitals; and West Virginia Northern Community College. Each program is permitted to register two teams of three students to participate in a student quiz bowl competition. Winners are awarded the traveling trophy that contains a plaque that is to be engraved with the program name and the year.
Students also participated in research paper and research exhibit competitions. The papers and exhibits were research-based and must be of interest to the medical imaging field and the judging of both categories is done confidentially.

1st place: Team Radiation Nation, Belmont College: Brooke Arick, Quaker City, OH; Casey Burkett, Wheeling, WV; and Melanie Thomas, New Martinsville, WV.
2nd place: Team Barium Baristas, Belmont College: Vanessa Hunkler, Barnesville, OH; Brianna Loy, St. Clairsville, OH; and Chloe Sutton, Martins Ferry, OH.

Belmont College offers a 2-year Radiology Program. This program is new to Belmont, as it is the former Ohio Valley Medical Center Program of Radiologic Technology, which was known for its program excellence from its inception in 1954. Graduates have had a 100% pass rate on the national board exam for over 20 years.
The program’s mission is dedicated to providing learning experiences that will enable each student to deliver quality health care, to understand the values and behavior of the profession, and to develop communication and independent reasoning in preparation for employment as entry level radiographers. Upon completion of all program requirements, the student will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology.
