Belmont College Holds Heritage Tree and Emeritus Ceremony
St. Clairsville, OH (October 29, 2013) – In recognition of their dedication and commitment to the College, four individuals were awarded high honors at the October 24 Honors Reception held at Belmont College. “Our honorees were chosen in acknowledgement of their unique contributions and long history with Belmont College,” said Mrs. Elizabeth Gates, Board of Trustees Chairperson. “They have all served in different capacities by devoting their time and excellent work to the College and our students.”
The Heritage Tree Award is presented to individuals who have helped to shape Belmont College through their leadership efforts and steadfast dedication. Receiving this distinguished award for devotion to the College was Mayor Robert R. Vincenzo.
Mr. Vincenzo has served as the mayor of St. Clairsville for over two decades. Prior to being elected in 1991, he served as a member of City Council for 13 years. Mr. Vincenzo, a native of Holloway, Ohio, is past president of the Ohio Mayors Association, past president of the Ohio Municipal League, and is presently serving as chairman of Bel-O-Mar, the regional planning commission of Belmont, Marshall and Ohio counties. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Municipal Electrical Association and is a member of the team responsible for $18.6 million in state and federal grants since 1994.
Mrs. Gates noted that Mr. Vincenzo, has not only been invaluable in moving the St. Clairsville Community forward, but he has also played an integral role in the development of Belmont College, having served on the Foundation Board for the last four years.
A symbolic tree with gold leaves adorns a prominent spot in the College to showcase the names of the current honorees and those who previously received the distinction. Inductee’s names are etched on the tree as a permanent reminder of their individual commitment to the creation, growth and development of Belmont College’s heritage.
Additionally, the notable designation of Emeritus was bestowed upon the following individuals: Mr. Thomas Atkinson, retired Professor of Business Technologies; Ms. Marge Hawthorne, retired Executive Director of Human Resources & Organizational Development; and Ms. Diane Kulazenka, retired Professor of Information Technology.
The Emeritus designation is an honorary title given to retired faculty and staff in recognition of admirable service to the college and its students.
“The Heritage Tree and Emeritus honorees deserve high recognition for their devotion to our institution and our students,” said President Dr. Joseph E. Bukowski. “They are a representation of the dedication that they have given to their students over the years. It is an honor to have had these individuals as an integral part of Belmont College, and recognize them for the effect they have had on past generations of our students.”
A reception was held at the Main Campus location in St. Clairsville to celebrate the inductees.
