Belmont College Holds Heritage Tree and Emeritus Ceremony
St. Clairsville, OH (October 24, 2014) – In recognition of their dedication and commitment to the College, six individuals were awarded high honors at the October 23 Honors Reception held at Belmont College.
“Our honorees were chosen in acknowledgement of their unique contributions and long history with Belmont College,” said Dr. Paul F. Gasparro, President. “They have all served in different capacities by devoting their time and excellent work to the College and our students.”
The Heritage Tree Award is presented to individuals who have helped to shape Belmont College through their leadership efforts and steadfast dedication. A symbolic tree with gold leaves adorns a prominent spot in the College to showcase the names of the current honorees and those who previously received the distinction. Inductee’s names are etched on the tree as a permanent reminder of their individual commitment to the creation, growth and development of Belmont College’s heritage.
Receiving this distinguished award for devotion to the College was Mrs. Suzanne Pollock of Jerusalem, Ohio, Mrs. Linda Dowler, and the late Mr. Thomas Dowler, both of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Mrs. Elizabeth Gates, Board of Trustees Chairperson presented Mrs. Suzanne Pollock with her award. Mrs. Pollock began serving on the Belmont College Board of Trustees in 2000. Mrs. Gates commented on Pollock’s passion for higher education and how she has played an essential role in the development of Belmont College during her 13 years on the Board of Trustees.
Foundation Board member Mrs. Sue White, Assistant Director and Program Chair of Nursing, presented Mrs. Linda Dowler with her award.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to honor Linda Dowler and her late husband, Thomas Dowler with leaves on the Heritage Tree,” said White. “Mr. Dowler, as former Chairman of the Foundation Board, played an integral part in building the Belmont College Foundation, and his love of the College was evident to all those who knew him.”
Since Mr. Dowler’s passing in 2008, Linda has continued his legacy of actively supporting the foundation and of being an avid golfer by holding the annual Thomas R. Dowler Memorial Classic Golf Scramble at Belmont Hills Country Club. As a result, more than $64,000 has been contributed to the Dowler Fund of the Belmont College Foundation in his honor.
Additionally, the notable designation of Emeritus was bestowed upon three well-deserving individuals. The Emeritus designation is an honorary title given to retired faculty and staff in recognition of admirable service to the College and its students.
