International Trauma Life Support – Adult Provider (ITLS)

The ITLS course focuses on the skills necessary to recognize mechanisms of injury, perform an organized time-efficient assessment, prioritize and perform critical interventions, appropriately package, and transport the trauma patient. A major focus of the course is the identification of conditions that require immediate transport (“load-and-go”) in order to save the patient. The basic course is designed to teach EMT-B’s and first responders, and the advanced course is designed to teach paramedics, advanced EMT’s, and other advanced EMS providers. Lifesaving techniques are taught or reviewed in practical exercises.

 

Newly developed equipment is provided, when possible, to allow the students to become familiar with state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. This course is also appropriate for medical students, first-year emergency medicine residents, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants interested in trauma care. This continuing education activity is approved by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS) for continuing 16 education hours.

Pediatric International Trauma Life Support – Pediatric Provider (Peds ITLS)

This course is designed to teach EMT’s, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other allied health providers the skills necessary to recognize mechanisms of injury, assess and perform critical interventions, and package and transport the injured infant or child. A major focus of the course is the identification of conditions that require immediate transport (“load-and-go” conditions) in order to save the child. Lifesaving techniques are taught or reviewed in practical exercises.

 

When possible, newly developed equipment is provided so students may become familiar with state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. This continuing education activity is approved by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS) for continuing 8 education hours.
