Course Description:

The course is an introduction to Geographic Information Systems.  GIS is the merging of cartography, statistical analysis, and database technology.  The student will learn the design, operation, and uses of GIS.

Geographic Information Systems are capable of integrating, storing, editing, analyzing, sharing, and displaying geographically reference information.  If the location of a person, thing, or event can be fixed on the earth, then it can be placed on a map, and that map can be used to search, organize, and analyze that information.  GIS applications and careers are discussed.  The hardware and software used in the GIS are introduced.
